A number of E-mailers have asserted that there are
circumstances under which Bill Clinton could actually become President
again. One example is if he were elected Vice President then succeeded
to the Presidency through death or disability of the President.
Opinion is divided on whether this scenario could occur.
One thing is for sure: Bill Clinton couldn't be placed on the ticket as
Vice Presidential candidate without someone suing. The suit would likely
be decided in the U.S. Supreme Court. Does anyone believe the current
Court would be any more likely to permit Bill Clinton to run as Vice
President than they were to decide the 2000 election in favor of Al
Gore?
Commensurate with the theme of this website, the fact remains that
Robin commented on this issue as if she is a Constitutional scholar. She
is no more a Constitutional scholar than she is a singer or race car
driver. (1.22.07) -The Amazed Listener Yesterday,
Constitutional scholar Quivers stated definitively that Bill Clinton
could become Vice-President or President again. Robinswrong.com reported
that, based upon the 12th and 22nd Amendments to the US Constitution,
such a scenario would be unlikely and also linked to an article
published in the Washington Post on October 20, 2006. In the article, a
variety of Constitutional scholars expressed differing points of view
concerning whether or not this could occur.
Undeterred, at the beginning of today's show, Robin reversed course
and just as definitively stated that Bill Clinton could not become VP or
President again. The point of yesterday's posting and this one is that
Ms. Quivers is no Constitutional scholar and should stick to topics with
which she has at least limited expertise, such as making vegetables
disappear without eating them, laughing at anything anyone says,
interrupting conversations between others and saying "I was going to
say" before saying something she wasn't going to say until she learned
it from someone else who just said it. (1.23.07)
